Alex MacMaster, graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2008 with a First Class Honours degree in Furniture Design and Making. In 2009 he launched his company MacMaster specializing in contemporary furniture products and bespoke commission furniture. MacMaster's style is influenced by contemporary European design while his methods are based on traditional British craftsmanship.
Alex set up his first workshop at the age of 11. At 14 he met John Makepeace and is still in regular contact with him. Over the years John Makepeace has given invaluable advice as almost a guide and mentor. This advice helped Alex to understand the bigger picture about furniture design and making as an expression of contemporary culture.
MacMaster's current 'Expose' coffee table has recently been recognised at several UK design awards.
Commissions If you would like to commission a piece of bespoke furniture then please feel free to book an appointment. Private, public and corporate enquires are all welcome. I will discuss specifications and design preferences with you before initial sketches and models are made. Following your approval of the design, time scale and price of the project a 50% deposit will be required to start the process of making the commission.
Throughout the whole process you will be in communication with Alex personally, and workshop viewings are always encouraged. Final payment will be due upon receipt of the commission.

Iris floor lamp consists of six individual 'iris inspired leaves' made from solid laminations of timber. Due to the nature of solid timber and its movement, no lamps will be identical as they form to its own individual shape. The lamp uses an energy saving bulb for an ambient light, casting subtle shadows created by the leaves.
